STORY BEHIND STUDIO KOMBI
Hi! I'm Anne, Helsinki-based entrepreneur and a professional seamstress behind Studio Kombi, who is passionate about utilizing various recycled materials. I remember dreaming more than 15 years ago about how I would start a clothing and accessories brand whose products would only be made from recycled materials.
The project finally took off in 2020 with a small selection of clothing and accessories sold online. In the spring of 2022, with the help of a new retailer, the collection took a big step forward and now it's time to open our own bigger online store again!
The idea is not to offer black cornerstones to your wardrobe, but something completely different: colorful and personal, one might even say strangely lovely clothes and accessories. Unique in many ways. As much as I love designing and sewing, I also loooove colorful glass stuff! Glass fruits, 70´s retro, 90´s kitch and so on. I simply just cannot walk by when ever I see the cool and eclectic art glass on flea markets or other 2nd hand venues. I have dreamt about a colorful and eclectic, but also ecological consept and brand for a long time and finally it is here!
I make all products by hand from recycled materials. Due to the availability of materials, colothes are usually unique one of a kind pieces, that do not exist anywhere else. So I can wholeheartedly promise that when you buy a Kombi dress, you won't run into anyone else wearing the same dress!
FROM CURTAINS TO A KIMONO
Studio Kombi's products are ALWAYS made only from recycled materials. Fabrics and often even other supplies such as zippers, rubber bands and various carrying straps for bags can also be found recycled. Of many products, only the sewing thread has been purchased new, because it is quite difficult to find them in exactly the right shade.
The materials are acquired from flea markets or various channels where people sell textiles they don't need. Using a trained eye, I scan the selection for very good condition, mostly patterned 90´s materials which color and style fit the spirit of Studio Kombi.
As a seamstress, I am most excited when I can give a fabric a brand new life as a different product. There may be a hole in the curtain or a stain in the tablecloth, in which case they are no longer suitable for their original purpose, but the materials are still in fully usable condition and the most excellent material for clothes or accessories
I prefer natural materials, but I don´t completely avoid artificial fibers, because there are a lot of them available. My idea behind everything is that the world is full of materials and we shouldn't waste any usable materia. That's why I also select high-quality synthetic fabrics that are suitable for clothing or accessories. Materials for circulation!

Studio Kombi's products are unique in many ways: clothing and accessories made in sewing atelier are unique individual pieces, and 2nd hand interior items and household goods are especially so as well.
